ATENEO FATHER AND SON NIGHT

1

| Posted in | Posted on Sunday, March 01, 2009

I had this day marked on my calendar since late last year. When it was postponed to Saturday, I didn't even think twice of missing work just to be with my eldest son on this special night. Work-life balance. Seriously. You talk the talk. Now let me walk the walk.

The father and son night is part of the school's push to bring families closer. In today's society, Filipino children spend more time with their nannies and gadgets more than they do with their parents who work most of the time.

I attended a fathering seminar several weeks ago to further understand the importance of this day not only to my son but also to me as a father.

So much preparation was done for this day. Much props to all the organizers, teachers and school personnel who made this possible. I would also like to thank all of the hard-working fathers who went out of their way to attend this special night. It was an honor to be in the same place with you guys. There was so much love that my son wished the night would last forever.

On with the photos and videos.

I don't even remember the last time I pitched a tent on my own so I watched the other dads put theirs up first before I began with ours. Straight from the box.

Ta-dah!

In an exclusive school like Ateneo, kids have the meanest tent game. I saw one with three floors, a basement and a terrace! Ha ha. Seriously though, never show up with an ugly small tent or you'll hear it from the kids, including your own.

During my time, there were no booths, no lighted pathways, no nothing. It was just us kids running around in the dark with our flashlights scaring the shit out of ourselves until the wee hours of the morning.

My son and I participated in a group dance composed of fathers and sons from four other classes. I think we did well.

It was a fun and memorable night. I got to hang out with my eldest son. Something I rarely get to do.

I hope I'm still around when it's my other kids' turn.

ADIDAS HOUSE PARTY MANILA

| Posted in | Posted on Sunday, March 01, 2009

After a tragedy hit the ADMU campus, the father and son night was moved to Saturday leaving my Friday night open. I really hadn't plan on going to the Adidas House Party at The Fort but since I already took a 1 day leave from work, I met up with the Ms. Clavel Sneaker Magazine Family to cover the event and check out what's good with celebrating 60 years of Soles and Stripes.

I arrived at the venue a little past 8pm after I got stuck in heavy traffic along Libis. I can never understand why it gets hella crazy on the streets when it's payday. Do people tell themselves "I'm rich bitch, time to get some petrol and drive to wherever and do whatever!" Whatever. Save your money kiddies. I know the Philippines has been in recession over the past century but that doesn't mean that we should all be used to it.

Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines were part of a simultaneous "house party" celebration as each one was aired live on the web. Adidas and The Embassy went all out for the Manila event. It's one of the grandest sneaker events I have been to. There was so much going on that I didn't even get to check out the areas where some good stuff were displayed.

Much props to Adidas, Jon and the rest of the folks who made this happen.

Time for some photos and videos.

If you hate seeing photos of the same people over and over again, you can stop scrolling down now. I bumped into some old faces. Faces I've known more than half of my life. Faces I haven't seen in more than five years.

It was Sarah Meier's bridal shower and they brought me back to the early 90's with their "Mi Vida Loca" theme. I can't believe they showed up at the house party looking like this. I love it! They looked exactly the same last time I saw them. Ha ha. Maybe not. I think E was in the Spice Girls phase last time I saw her. Aha ha ha.

Congratulations to Banj and best wishes to Sarah!

I had to snap a photo of Sarah's top. I've never seen a Ralph Lauren top like this one. Maybe she had it altered?

For my homey CJ. Guess who's back in town?

I left shortly after the Ms. Clavel Fam went home and when the regular Friday night Embassy crowd started coming in. To those who don't know, I really don't frequent such places. I'd rather kick it some place not too crowded.

Grabbed some Chinese food before heading home and chatted a bit with a new face.

Ladies and gentlemen... Ms. Xeng Zulueta. Soon to be part of the Ms. Clavel Fam.

In case you missed what I had on my feet, look closer.
