If I didn't check my "Promotions" folder I wouldn't have seen the invitation to this event. It's the launch of the new Nike Team Pilipinas National Team Kit for FIBA 2014!

Two weeks ago people had no idea what they were, called them Barcelona Kobe 9s, said they were EUro exclusives and pairs were resold online for around $500. Yesterday, I got a text from Raoul inviting me to the Titan x Nike release party of the same Kobe 9s and provided solid information about them. Filipino basketball-inspired Kobes? It's about damn time.

One Sunday afternoon, about 20 years ago, I dragged my family from Quezon City to Greenhills to look for a pair of Nike Air Up in the white/blue/black colorway seen below. Believe it or not, Greenhills was THE spot to go to for the latest Nike footwear back in the day. Not fakes, but authentics flown in from overseas and sold in "PX" stores. Unfortunately, what I wanted was sold out everywhere so we ended up going to SM Megamall where we found the Scottie Pippen version in white/silver with the number 33 on the back. I wasn't really keen on the colorway but I was madly in love with the shoes so I went home happy. (90's = golden age of Nike basketball kicks)

Earlier this week, I received an invitation from Nike Philippines' new PR agency to the Kobe 9 media day. I haven't been to the Nike Philippines HQ all year (believe or not) so I said yes even though I knew my Thursday would be hectic as hell.

When news broke that Lebron James is visiting the Philippines, the first thing that I thought of was to give away free tickets on my site just like what I did when Nike flew in Kobe in 2011. I knew something was up when a girl working for Nike's local PR agency started rooting for Miami Heat to win the NBA championship. How are you gonna start cheering for Lebron when you don't even watch basketball? I asked her about this new campaign but she just played it off and acted like it didn't exist. She prolly hasn't heard of Niketalk where photos of the championship pack were first leaked. Imagine if the Spurs won it all! Hahahahaha.
